We are what we eat. It is important to introduce healthy eating and drinking to our children at birth, including breastfeeding. Eating healthy requires a balanced mix of key nutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals) to sustain a healthy body and mind. It also requires an environment that promotes access to healthy, local and affordable foods and safe drinking water. For Native families and communities, this includes our connection to land, the ancestral knowledge connected to our indigenous foods and our cultural languages, traditions and lifeways. The NB3 Foundation supports Native children, families and communities working to build and/or strengthen their food and water systems to provide healthy, affordable and indigenous foods for their children and communities. See American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for dietary guidelines for children.
