ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
In 2005, Notah Begay III, 4-time PGA TOUR winner and the only full-blooded Native American on the PGA TOUR, established the Notah Begay III Foundation (NB3). The Foundation addresses the profound health and wellness issues impacting Native American youth and empowers youth to realize their potential as leaders.
The mission of the NB3 Foundation is to reduce the incidence of obesity and type 2 diabetes and advance the lives of Native American youth. To this end, the Foundation supports the development of evidence-based sports and wellness programming primarily in the forms of soccer and golf, which serve as vehicles to improve the health of Native American youth as well as foster leadership and community development.
NB3 FOUNDATION SOCCER PROGRAM AWARDS GUIDELINES
The NB3 Foundation’s Soccer Program Awards initiative is designed to provide support to 501 (c)(3) organizations, schools, Pueblos and Tribal Nations serving Native American youth with the goal of helping to support the development of soccer in Indian Country.
This is a competitive award opportunity for soccer programs that consist of the following two components:
- Cash awards of up to $3,000 (see below for list of approved funded items) to support existing soccer programs serving Native American youth.
- Technical assistance (TA) in the form of NB3 Soccer staff administered player mini-camps and coaching education clinics, assistance on obtaining approved coach licensure and/or certification, and provision of and training on NB3 Soccer curriculum. TA will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may not include all elements listed here.
NB3 Soccer Program Awards are a combination of cash awards for direct program support plus technical assistance and will consist of the two components outlined above. Cash program support awards and technical assistance may not be applied for separately. See below for specific requirements of NB3 Soccer 2012 grant funding.
The NB3 Foundation will grant awards to support and enhance existing soccer programming that serves Native American youth. Preference will be given to programs that include obesity and type 2 diabetes prevention and/or youth leadership development through the sport of soccer.
