Mariah Gladstone, Creator, INDIGIKITCHEN
This presentation focuses on the revitalization of traditional foods, including comparing pre-contact indigenous diets (from across North America) to the Standard American Diet (SAD). Beyond the nutritional aspects, this session touches on psychological benefits of knowing the origins of one’s food and the issues of food access in Indian Country. Participant takeaways: a better understanding of the advantages of indigenous ingredients and several kid-friendly recipes.
Mariah Gladstone is the creator of a pre-colonial cooking show called INDIGIKITCHEN. Her passion is food advocacy. She has a degree in Environmental Engineering from Columbia University. Ms. Gladstone is a Center for Native American Youth Champion for Chang and is on the board of the Native Youth Food Sovereignty Alliance. Ms. Gladstone grew up in Northwest Montana with one moccasin in the Flathead Valley and one in the Blackfeet Reservation.
